Teatro Strappato offers different training formats for actors interested in exploring physical expression and mask work.
These trainings are not organized directly by the company, but arise through collaborations with companies, academies, and external producers who invite Teatro Strappato to lead workshops in a variety of contexts and at different levels: from introductory workshops to longer professional training programs.
In our workshops, we explore both historical and contemporary masks, as well as different techniques for character creation depending on the genre or performance style. We start from a fundamental premise: the mask is a tool, not a genre. There is no such thing as “mask theatre” in itself, but rather theatre in which the mask enhances the storytelling. What remains essential is always the story we tell.
TOWARDS THE MASK
Introductory workshop
An introductory workshop on mask work, with a flexible duration ranging from 6 to 25 hours.
It is open to anyone curious about working with masks, with or without prior experience. During the workshop, we focus on the basic elements of character construction, as well as the first principles that bring coherence to movement, form, and intention on stage.
BEHIND THE MASK
Intensive professional training – 77h
A two-week intensive immersion designed for professional actors currently in practice.
“The mask as a theatrical tool to develop awareness of the body’s communicative potential, both in masked and unmasked theatre.”
This workshop aims to develop advanced tools for physical expressivity, using the mask as a means of interpretation rather than simply as a scenic object.
The work goes beyond the categories of comedy and tragedy, freeing itself from genre constraints and becoming a comprehensive training tool for the actor.
This training is usually held in France and is organized several times a year in different cities by ARTS & CITÉS.

BRASS SOULS
Pedagogical and creative project
“Brass Souls” is a collaborative project between Teatro Strappato and the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Murcia (ESAD).
Over 150 hours, Cecilia Scrittore and Vene Vieitez work with second-year students from the creation program. Throughout the process, students receive training in the principles of mask work from the Commedia dell’Arte tradition.
Each edition culminates in the creation and presentation of an original performance, written and directed by Vene Vieitez.
The project includes:
- Premiere at the Semana de la Commedia dell’Arte in Lorquí
- Morning performances in secondary schools in Murcia
- Final performance at the ESAD theatre for World Theatre Day

*Training in Mask Design and Construction
At Teatro Strappato, we continuously research and experiment not only with new ways of using the mask on stage, but also with new approaches to designing and constructing it.
Our approach considers mask-making as an in-depth process that requires time, precision, and a true understanding of materials and their expressive potential.
For this reason, we do not عادة offer short mask-making workshops (in leather or other materials), as these processes, in order to be truly meaningful, require extended time and an appropriate investment in materials.
If there is interest in organizing a mask construction training with our company, it is important to note that this type of workshop can only be carried out when the necessary conditions in terms of time, resources, and guidance are ensured, in order to guarantee a rigorous and high-quality learning experience.
